Colorful Meanings – Purple for Public Relations Pertaining to Peace

What would the world be like without color? Can you imagine eating a delicious white apple? How about lying on lush white grass on a beautiful summer day? Hmmm….it’s not really appealing, is it??

Color has the power to motivate, stimulate and inspire. How do you react to seeing a rainbow in the sky or waves on a deep, blue ocean? Life is a color wheel of wonderful hues and tones.

As a public relations, marketing and graphic design firm, we work with color everyday and we witness the impact it has on getting a message to the marketplace and making it stick. For many years, our public relations and marketing firm used the power of the purple of the Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and generate financial and volunteer support.

Color deserves conversation, so we’re going to talk about it in the upcoming weeks. From the bright yellow sun of summer to the red, white and blue of patriotism, let’s search for colorful meanings in live and in business, beginning with purple.

May 16th is Wear Purple for Peace Day. Purple is known for symbolizing power and nobility, so it seems appropriate for a day designated to peacemaking. After all, peace has the power to unite nations and inspire noble acts of heroism.

Now, for some reason, this day is also written about as a day to encourage alien species to make contact with earth. Apparently, aliens currently consider earthlings to be a bit hostile, so they’re keeping their distance.  Maybe if we all wear purple, they’ll change their mind!

What does purple bring out in you?
